With the rapid increase in the production of corn distillers grains/solubles Hormel CP Balancer is specifically designed to work, and balance well nutritionally, with dried corn distillers/solubles. Dried corn distillers/solubles provides extra protein, energy and phosphorus and should be a good source of bypass Methionine. It definitely has the potential to save money over a diet that includes only corn and supplement. Your local Hormel Feed Division representative can help you take advantage of dried corn distillers/solubles and put some extra cash on the bottom line as a result. Holstein steer diets that include wet distillers can often save even more.
CAUTION: Do not allow horses or other equines access to formulations containing Monensin. Ingestion of Monensin by equines has been fatal. Do not exceed levels of Monensin recommended in the feeding directions, as reduced average daily gain may result. Feeding undiluted or mixing errors resulting in high concentrations of Monensin could be fatal to cattle. Must be thoroughly mixed feeds before use. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal. Do not feed to lactating dairy cows.

DB TMR Base Mix R800 TY360

Hormel DB TMR Base Mix R800 TY360 is another product designed for feeding Holstein steers with diets that include wet distillers grains. It is typically fed at the rate of ½ pound per head daily, but in meal form. There would not be much value in pelleting this product if it is going to be fed with wet distillers grains as that would tend to soften and break up the pellet. The same cautions apply as those listed for CP Balancer R560 TY240.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HOLSTEIN
AND BEEF BREED STEERS

  1. Holsteins require 10 to 12% more energy for maintenance than beef breeds.
  2. Holstein steers use feed energy more efficiently for protein and less efficiently for fat deposition than beef breeds.
  3. Feedlot research has shown that Holsteins require 8 to 10% more feed per unit of gain over the entire feeding period than smaller framed beef breeds.
  4. Holstein steers consume 7% more dry matter than beef steers.
  5. Holstein steers show better performance response to high grain diets than beef steers.
  6. Holstein steers are less adaptable to environmental stress with less hair, external fat and thinner hide.
